Privacy Policy
KitchenOS ("we," "us," "our") provides a WhatsApp-based service that helps shared flats plan meals, track groceries, and coordinate with their cook. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with.
1. Information we collect
When you or your cook use KitchenOS, we collect:
- WhatsApp account information — your phone number and display name, as provided by WhatsApp.
- Messages and voice notes you send to KitchenOS, including transcriptions generated from voice notes, so we can understand and act on them (e.g., adding an item to your grocery list).
- Household details you provide — headcount, meal times, your cook's schedule, dietary preferences, allergies, and dislikes.
- Grocery and meal-plan data — items added to your shared list, weekly meal plans, and any edits made to them.
- Order details, when you place a grocery order through Swiggy Instamart via KitchenOS — including items, selected brands, delivery address, and order total. These are shared with Swiggy Instamart to fulfil your order (see Section 3).
2. How we use this information
- To operate the core service: understanding voice notes and messages, updating your flat's shared grocery list, and generating meal plans.
- To notify your flatmates of relevant updates (e.g., groceries running low, an order being placed) so responsibilities aren't duplicated.
- To send your cook the day's or week's meal plan, by message and voice note, in their preferred language.
- To improve the accuracy of voice transcription and language understanding over time.
- To provide customer support if you contact us.
3. Who we share information with
- WhatsApp / Meta Platforms, Inc. — as our messaging channel, WhatsApp processes the messages sent to and from KitchenOS in line with WhatsApp's Business Data Processing Terms.
- Swiggy Instamart — when you choose to place a grocery order through KitchenOS, your item list, selected brands, and delivery address are shared with Swiggy to fulfil that order.
- We do not sell personal information to third parties, and we do not share your data with advertisers.
4. Data retention
We retain your household details, grocery lists, and meal plans for as long as your flat's KitchenOS account is active, so the service continues to work correctly. You can request deletion of your data at any time (see Section 6).
5. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Show you what information we hold about your flat.
- Correct inaccurate information (e.g., an outdated dietary preference).
- Delete your flat's data from KitchenOS entirely.
To do any of this, message us on WhatsApp or email hello@thekitchenos.com.
6. Contact us
Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to hello@thekitchenos.com, or by messaging KitchenOS directly on WhatsApp.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as KitchenOS adds features (for example, additional payment methods for Instamart orders). We'll post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date.
